Items on the Codex now covers every item in the Forever game client, 19,335 of them, where it used to hold only dungeon and raid drops. Each one has a page of its own that says where it comes from and how sure we are that it is in the game. Every class page also has two new tabs, the best gear for each spec at level 20 and a set of macros, and the Updates page has become this blog.

Every item in the game client

Gear is still sorted by slot, from Head to Tabard. Everything you cannot wear has lists of its own under Not equippable: consumables, trade goods, recipes, quest items, keys and the rest. That makes 30 lists in all. The biggest are quest items with 3,325 and recipes with 2,443, and the largest gear slot is Chest with 1,035.

A page for every item

Click an item's name anywhere on the Codex, in a loot table, a quest reward or a list, and its page opens. Open Rockslicer and you get its full card, where it comes from (Rhahk'Zor in the Deadmines, with a 4.1% drop chance) and the other two-handers at the same item level. A set piece also shows the rest of its set, and an item a profession makes says so, for example "Crafted: Tailoring".

Each page also says how sure we are of the item. Hidden means Forever has it but keeps its details out of the game files. Datamined means it is in the game files. Confirmed means it has turned up in the game, as Rockslicer has. Hidden, datamined or confirmed goes through the three stages in more detail.

Search, filter and sort the lists

Each list has a name search, type filters and columns you can sort: type, item level, required level and source. On the Two-Hand list the filters split the 608 items into staves, maces, axes, swords and the rest, and sorting by source puts the 108 with a known source at the top: bosses, quests and professions, A to Z. Point at an item to see its card.

The search box at the top of every page finds every item in the game now as well. It looks items up as you type, from the second letter, and shows the six best matches, so it stays quick on a phone.

BiS at 20 for every class

Every class page has a BiS at 20 tab. For each spec it shows the best piece a level 20 character can wear in every slot, two alternatives, and where each one comes from. The priest's list, for example, starts Discipline off with a crafted Pristine Circlet for the head. BiS at 30 is next, and its tab already sits beside this one, marked Soon.

The guide WoW Forever BiS at level 20 goes through the picks class by class.

Macros for every class

Next to it is a Macros tab: 77 macros across the nine classes, each with a note on what it does. The spell names in them match your game's language, so on the German warlock page a macro says /cast Furcht where the English one says /cast Fear. WoW Forever macros for all nine classes explains how to add one in the game and starts you off with three.

This blog

The blog takes over from the Updates page. It has guides as well as notes like this one, and it has an RSS feed. To make room for it in the top bar, the Blue tracker moved to the footer, with a Blizzard logo next to it.

On a set's page you can now copy a link to any piece and send it to a friend, and a piece's name opens its item page. Set pages keep you on the Codex instead of linking out to Wowhead. On phones and tablets, which have no pointer to reveal it, the copy link button now always shows, on every page that has one.
