The Codex's Tailoring page: the recipe table with icons, materials, skill numbers in orange, yellow, green and grey, and where each recipe is learned

WoW Forever professions, and the crafted BiS at 30

Every WoW Forever profession is on the Codex now: all 2,199 recipes, where to gather, a leveling guide each, and the crafted pieces that are best in slot at 30.

The Codex has a Professions section now. It covers all 13 professions and secondary skills: every recipe, what it takes, the skill it needs, how you learn it, and a leveling guide for each. Professions count at level 30 too: 123 of the 432 top picks on our BiS at 30 lists are crafted, and every one of the 27 specs has at least one.

The pages are built from the game files and follow every beta build. This post is a snapshot of 8 October.

Every recipe, with what it takes

Each profession page lists its recipes, lowest skill first. A row shows what you make, the materials for one craft as bag slots with the count in the corner, and the skill. The orange number is what you need to learn it. The small yellow, green and grey numbers under it are where it stops being a sure skill-up.

The last column says where the recipe comes from: the trainer, a pattern you can click through to, or "Known from the start". A Forever label marks a recipe Classic never had. Search the box beside the tabs for a recipe or a material: "copper bar" finds every recipe that takes one.

The Blacksmithing recipe table, lowest skill first
Blacksmithing, lowest skill first. Copper Rod carries the Forever label: Classic had no recipe for it.

Forever lowered what a lot of patterns ask for. Where it did, the old Classic number sits struck through beside the new one. Plans: Runed Copper Breastplate used to need 80 and now needs 55.

Herbs, veins, beasts and fishing

Herbalism, Mining, Skinning and Fishing open on what they gather. Every herb and vein shows the skill it needs, what it gives with the chance for each, and the zones with the most of them. Skinning goes by the level of the beast, and Fishing by zone, with the skill where fish stop getting away.

Mining's veins and deposits
Mining. Copper Vein needs skill 1 and is easiest to find in Durotar, Westfall and Wetlands.

Forever adds to what some nodes give. Players have found Pyrite in Copper Veins, Tin Veins and Iron Deposits, and Frilled Lichen on Earthroot, Mageroyal, Briarthorn, Bruiseweed and Stranglekelp. Forever's brand-new ores and herbs, such as Bauxite, Pitchblende and Rosecap, have no known node yet. Each page lists them at the bottom until someone finds where they grow.

A leveling guide for each profession

The Leveling tab takes a profession from 1 to 300. For a craft, each step names the recipe, where you learn it, the materials for the whole step and about how many crafts it takes. Gold rows tell you when to visit the trainer for the next rank, at what level, and what it costs.

The path picks the cheapest way through the recipes you can get. It leaves out recipes sold only for reputation, recipes with a cooldown, and anything that needs rare raid materials such as Lava Core. For gathering professions the guide tells you which herbs, veins, beasts or waters to go for at each skill, and where.

Item pages say how things are made

Open any crafted item and "Where it comes from" now shows the recipe: the profession, the skill, where you learn it, and every material with its count. Gathered materials work the same way. Copper Ore says Mining, Copper Vein, skill 1, and the three zones with the most veins.

The crafted pieces that are BiS at 30

Tailoring makes 50 of the 123 crafted top picks, Leatherworking 41, Enchanting 18 and Blacksmithing 14.

43 of the 50 different crafted pieces bind when picked up, so you need the profession yourself to wear them. Only seven can be bought from another player: Dusky Leather Armor, Truefaith Gloves, Barbaric Bracers, Fletcher's Gloves, Hands of Darkness, Azure Silk Cloak and Azure Silk Gloves.

Enchanting: a staff and two off-hands for casters

  • Glimmering Staff is the staff on 8 lists: Balance druids, all three mage specs, Shadow priests, Elemental shamans, and Affliction and Demonology warlocks.
  • Orb of Mystic Insight is the off-hand on 7 caster lists.
  • Orb of Souls is the off-hand for Restoration druids and Discipline and Holy priests.

All three need Enchanting 140.

Tailoring: whole outfits for cloth wearers

  • Healers share Gilded Slippers (all five healing specs, and Elemental shamans) and Truefaith Gloves (the five healers). Discipline and Holy priests and Restoration shamans add Pristine Leggings, and both priest specs Pristine Sash.
  • Shadow priests and warlocks wear Shadow Gown, Filigreed Shadow Circlet and Black Slippers. Demonology and Destruction add Shadow Gloves, and Destruction Shadow Sash.
  • Each mage spec has its own line: Flame for Fire, Silky for Frost, Pearly for Arcane, with a circlet, a gown, leggings and slippers in each. Balance druids share the Pearly Gown, Pearly Leggings and Golden Slippers.

Leatherworking: helms and belts for hunters, rogues and melee

  • Hunters and rogues all take Brawler's Leather Helm and Dusky Leather Armor. Hunters add Stalker's Leather Belt, rogues Skulker's Leather Belt.
  • Feral druids, Enhancement shamans, Retribution paladins and Arms and Fury warriors take Defender's Leather Helm.
  • Casters in leather and mail get Skycaller's Leather Belt (Balance, Elemental) and Mender's Leather Belt (both Restoration specs).

Blacksmithing: belts and leggings for warriors and paladins

  • Arms and Fury warriors and Retribution paladins take Officer's Belt and Veteran's Silvered Chain Leggings.
  • Protection warriors take Sentinel's Belt and Guard's Silvered Chain Leggings, Protection paladins Warder's Belt and Protector's Silvered Chain Leggings.
  • Holy paladins take Prefect's Belt and Acolyte's Silvered Chain Leggings.

What the professions pages cannot tell you yet

  • Some patterns have no known source. 16 of the patterns behind BiS pieces, among them Formula: Glimmering Staff, the slippers, the circlets and the Blacksmithing belts, have not been seen at a vendor or on a mob yet. Their pages fill in when someone finds them.
  • Four helms have no known pattern at all. Brawler's, Defender's and Totemic Leather Helm and Protector's Chain Helm are in the game files, but nobody knows how you learn them.
  • Trainer skills and costs come from Classic. The game files don't hold trainers. A trainer recipe's skill could differ in Forever.
  • There are no auction prices yet. The leveling guides count each material at what a vendor pays for it, so the cheapest path may shift once the auction house is open.

The profession pages change with every beta build, and this post doesn't. Check them before you farm.
